Drawing inspiration from the Baroque art movement, which was characterized by ornate designs and intricate details, the new Baroque era in jewellery design takes this aesthetic to a new level. A fusion of elements from different historical periods, cultures and styles, creates unique and eclectic aesthetics with rich textures, whilst incorporating sustainable materials and production methods.

Synthetic materials used in jewellery which are considered as perhaps sustainable include: lab-grown diamonds, glass, recycled and bio-based plastics and ceramics. This approach has gained popularity as we consciously work towards a greener economy where responsible sourcing of gemstones and diamonds is expected to continue.

These new Baroque designs often feature oversized pearls, embellished gemstones, intricate metalwork, and ornate details such as filigree, engraving, and enamelling. The colour palette is rich and opulent, featuring deep blues, emerald greens, vibrant reds, and luscious purples.

This trend emphasizes local traditions, bringing back antiquated methods, building schools, and leaving behind legacies that give communities authority. Several designers share this dedication and use a wide range of alternative materials, including salvaged wood, seaweed, and vintage trinkets and heirlooms.

Employing natural and sustainable materials has seen increased attention in the jewellery industry in recent years. These materials are frequently derived from environmentally friendly renewable sources that have minimal impact on the environment. Reclaimed specimens and valuable jewels are blended with intricate sculptures based on traditional skills. Jewellers demonstrate respect for the sourcing of materials by working with regional craftspeople and celebrating rich worldwide cultures. Jewellery is transformed into an art form while minimizing waste and maintaining traditional craftsmanship.
